Having your MTC Federal Debit Rewards Mastercard® on hand is quick and convenient, however it does open you up to potential debit card fraud. Unlike credit cards, your debit card is linked to your bank account and anyone with your card information can get instant access to all your funds. In order to safeguard your money, follow these tips to help protect your account:
Card skimmers are a common way for scammers to get your card information. These devices are usually placed on gas pumps and stand-alone ATMs, but can be placed on any card reader. Check the terminal to see if anything looks out of the ordinary. Give the card reader a tug, look for loose parts and make sure no security seals are broken. If you are ever weary, go inside to pay or move on to another location.
Keep Your Information Private
Do not give your information out and always keep your PIN secure. Be sure not to input any personal data online while on an unsecured Wi-Fi connection. A fraudster could be standing by hacking the connection to retrieve your information.
Consider an MTC Federal Platinum Mastercard®
Having a second form of payment in your wallet can give you peace of mind. The MTC Federal Platinum Mastercard® is a great choice offering a low APR and the same safety features as the MTC Federal Debit Rewards Mastercard®.
